Participate in Newport's Future! The City is in the beginning stages of updating one of its most important planning tools, the Comprehensive Plan. The Comprhensive Plan, which was last updated in 1999, lays out long-term plans for land use, housing, economic development / redevelopment, transportation, parks, open space, trails, public facilities, surface water, water supply, and sanitary sewer. State law requires cities to update their Comprehensive Plan every ten years. Citizen Involvement is Welcomed There will be opportunities for public participation throughout the 2008 Comprehensive Plan process. These opportunities will be public workshops located at City Hall in which all residents and businesses are welcome to attend and participate in the update process. Please stay tuned to the City website, City newsletter, the South Washington County Bulletin, City Council meetings, and Planning Commission meetings for information regarding dates and times of the public workshops.Questions can be directed to Chris Weirens, Community Service Officer / Zoning & Planning Official, at City Hall at (651) 556-4604 or cweirens@newportmn.com. Town Meetings There will be three separate Town Hall meetings at Newport City Hall to participate in the update of Newport's Comprehensive Plan.
